Rhythmos

When she closes her eyes,
the stadium disappears.
All she feels are lines and angles,
tested computations
entered against hope,
leading up to the two whole
revolutions that steady
the balance sheet.

When she opens her eyes
there are fractions of net and people,
a faint smell of gypsum
between metal and skin,
the speed of her blood
pushing at the sound barrier,
the air impacting on her mathematics
as she spins and lets go of the discus.
